Each lesson focuses on vocabulary acquisition (using colorful English/Spanish vocabulary cards), reading comprehension, writing, listening, speaking, problem-solving, critical thinking, and showing one's work.

At the beginning of the program, all skill development activities and reading passages are in Spanish, slowly, actively, and carefully transitioning into English as the learner progresses through the lessons.

All instruction uses learning styles (auditory, visual, kinesthetic) to integrate oral and written vocabulary development, the construction of sentences and paragraphs, and the application of specific reading comprehension and critcal thinking skills (main idea, identifing factual information, sequencing events, cause and effect, making inferences, etc.).

Each teacher and student handbook includes an English/Spanish list of high frequency words—the first 400 most commonly used words in the English language and 160 colorful vocabulary cards for the teaching of higher level, high-frequency vocabulary words.
